S.E.M.K.A. (Samurai Enlighten Mushin Karate Academy) is a group of traditional Wado-Ryu Karate clubs in based Sussex, offering expert instruction for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist looking to return or switch styles, we welcome you to join our friendly and supportive community.

Fundamentals that Make a Difference
S.E.M.K.A. students benefit from developing the core ABCs of physical literacy:
- Agility: movement, reaction, direction changes, and coordination
- Balance: understanding centre of gravity, stability, and motion
- Coordination: effective limb movement, force control, and accuracy

About Our Chief Instructor – Paul Elliott, 8th Dan, Shogo Kyoshi
Paul has been training since 1972 and teaching traditional Wado-Ryu since 1980. With a wealth of experience and a range of complementary qualifications, Paul leads all S.E.M.K.A. clubs and continues to inspire students across Sussex.
